My Pick: Roger Deakins
Roger Deakins is an absolute legend and my personal favorite director of photography. His body of work is more than impressive, it’s superior — you know what kind of presence any film will have when he’s behind it. 1917 is another masterclass effort for a master in the field. This ‘one shot’ technique 1917 used isn’t a gimmick, it’s so flawless you don’t even know it’s happening. It’s a cinematic choreographed-tour-de-force-dance.
