My Pick: Sam Mendes
1917 was an amazing feat, watching the movie in the ‘one-take’ style was like riding a roller coaster at an amusement park. Everything about this movie; the directing, the cinematography and the acting all hit the spot — it’s a technical marvel. There’s nothing negative you can say about the direction and it’s an experience you need to have.
I’m not sure how many people have watched Parasite, but don’t let the one inch wall keep you from enjoying the film because it was one of the best movies of 2019. The Oscars are about stories, so what’s the biggest story? Bong Joon-ho winning Best Director or Parasite winning Best Picture? I don’t think both will happen, but one will, we’ll get into that later.
- I wouldn’t call it a ‘sleeper,’ but I believe it’s a dead-lock. For that reason, it can easily go to Bong Joon-ho for his amazing work in Parasite. Guess we will have to wait and see.
