How I Save Money on Video Games

savestarHow do I save money on video games? Three words; Gamer’s Club Unlocked — a program that any gamer should be apart of currently available at Best Buy. I have been part of this program for a few years now and after talking to someone that knew nothing of it, I knew I needed to share so anyone that doesn’t know — will now. Here we go.

It’s almost Labor Day Weekend and I already know that before this year is over I will be purchasing the following games:

Destiny 2

FIFA 18

NBA 2K18

Call of Duty WWII

Assassins Creed: Origins

Star Wars Battlefront II.

If I were to purchase every single one of those games at (Day 1) FULL price I would get:

$59.99 + tax which comes to $64.93 — multiply that by six and you have a grand total of $389.63

Obviously, if you wait a few months, the games will drop in price, but I’m talking about the games you know you will buy… the ones you won’t wait for. What if I told you that there’s a way to shave off over $100 on that total? Would you believe me? Here’s how it all plays out for me at Best Buy.

Step 1: Purchase GCU for $30

This gets you in the club and it lasts for a total of two years ($15 a year). You don’t even have to go into the store to do this, you can just add it to your FREE Best Buy account online and from that date on (two years) you will receive the benefit — the main one being 20% on all games.

On top of that you get things like:

  • 10% Bonus Trade in Credit
  • 10% Off Pre Owned Games
  • 20% Off E-Guides
  • 2x the points on your Best Buy Account

Step 2: Enjoy the savings.

That’s it, now watch how these numbers can turn out for you.

Previously I would have spent: $64.93 on each game, but now that I’m a member every game brand new is $51.94 or $13 savings per game. This number stacks every single time you buy a game, so if you know you will buy, at the very least 3 games in the next 24 months, you’d already be saving yourself $6.00 due to the membership. It’s small amount of money, but it’s better in your pocket, right? Now, for all the people that will buy a dozen or more games in the next two years, watch these numbers work.

So for me personally, the next few months the total dropped from an original $389.63 to $311.64, which comes out to $78 in savings. That number already speaks for itself, right?

But wait, there’s more…

There’s a way to double dip and save even more money because if you Pre-Order the games ahead of time you also get a $10 Gift Card on the house for each game — no I’m not kidding — I know you’ve seen it, all major games get this treatment at Best Buy. So, let’s re-run those numbers again.

Since I Pre-Ordered the first 5 games on my list, I now will have $50 in Best Buy Gift-cards just waiting to be used. With this strategy I’ll just grab that 6th game for Free, (technically I’ll pay $1.94) so let’s total it back up.

Final Numbers

Standard (go to the store) strategy for 6 brand new, Day 1 games: $389.63

My (Gamer’s Club Unlocked) strategy for 6 brand new, Day 1 games: $261.64

That is a total savings of $128!

assassinssaveIf your a gamer like me, you know these games start to stack up, especially when you own both a Xbox One & Playstation 4. Buying at least 6 games a year is really easy to do, so do the math yourself and see how your numbers come out if you were to follow this method.

Remember, if you Pre-Order all the games, every 5 games you purchase (already at a discounted price) equals a 6th game for free.

You save $13 per game purchase + $10 Gift Card for Pre-Ordering.

Here are some numbers already calculated out for you if you use this method:

(6) Game Purchases = Saving of $128

(10) Game Purchases = Saving of $182

(15) Game Purchases = Saving of $298

(20) Game Purchases = Saving of $415

(25) Game Purchases = Saving of $533

Those numbers can turn out to be huge when you really think about it. Think in the next 24 months, you could easily buy 10-15 games? That’s anywhere from $180 to $300 you can save by following this process. Think you’d be in the 25+ range in the next two years? That would be savings well over $500.

That’s all, we’re done.

Did you already know about this program? If you did, just share it with a friend that doesn’t. Plus, please let me know if you’ve heard of this or not in the comments below.
