My 4K UHD Collection is continuing to grow and with more movies on the horizon adapting to the format — it continues to be an amazing time for film. I can’t believe we are already leading into the month of August (2019) and don’t worry, it has an expensive month of releases in the UHD format — and here are the ones I’m looking forward to the most.
Please note that these are my personal favorites, there are still other 4K releases coming out in the month of August like the new remastered Stand By Me along with Brightburn and the Secret Life of Pets 2. There’s something to pick up every single week!
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu (August 6, 2019)
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
Avengers: Endgame (August 13, 2019)
Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.
Something else to note: On this exact release day for Avengers: Endgame, Marvel will also be releasing 4K UHD copies of Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor & Thor: The Dark World. One of the biggest release days I’ve ever seen.
Apocalypse Now (August 27, 2019)
In Vietnam in 1970, Captain Willard takes a perilous and increasingly hallucinatory journey upriver to find and terminate Colonel Kurtz, a once-promising officer who has reportedly gone completely mad. In the company of a Navy patrol boat filled with street-smart kids, a surfing-obsessed Air Cavalry officer, and a crazed freelance photographer, Willard travels further and further into the heart of darkness.
Godzilla: The King of Monsters (August 27, 2019)
Members of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species-thought to be mere myths-rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
