Review: Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (Blu-ray)

There have been plenty of different versions of Scooby-Doo over the years, but Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated remains one of the most interesting reinventions of the franchise. Originally running from 2010 to 2013, the series took the familiar characters we all know and love and placed them in a much bigger, darker, and more serialized mystery. Now, Warner Archive is bringing the complete series to Blu-ray for the first time, collecting all 52 episodes across two seasons in a six-disc set arriving August 25. For Scooby-Doo fans, this is a release worth getting excited about.

What I appreciate most is that it doesn’t simply repeat the same formula we’ve seen for decades. Of course, you still get Scooby and Shaggy getting themselves into trouble, Fred obsessing over traps, Daphne finding herself caught up in the action, and Velma trying to make sense of everything. The humor, the monsters, and the familiar personalities are all here. But the series takes those recognizable ingredients and builds something much more ambitious around them.

The setting is a big part of what makes this version work. Crystal Cove is supposedly the most haunted place on Earth, and the town has a history filled with strange occurrences, disturbing secrets, and mysteries that reach much further back than the gang initially realizes. Rather than treating every episode as an isolated adventure, the series gradually reveals a larger story connecting the town, its residents, and the supernatural mysteries surrounding them. There is a genuine sense of discovery as the pieces start coming together, and the continuing storyline gives you a reason to keep watching beyond simply finding out who’s hiding underneath the next monster costume.

That serialized approach also allows the characters to develop in ways that aren’t always possible in more traditional Scooby-Doo adventures. Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby aren’t just solving mysteries week after week; they’re dealing with relationships, insecurities, secrets, and the challenges of growing up. Their friendships are tested, their personalities are explored in greater depth, and the show isn’t afraid to let its characters make mistakes. That added dimension helps make the series feel like its own distinct interpretation of the franchise rather than just another variation on a familiar formula.

The show’s darker storytelling is another major strength, but Mystery Incorporated can still be funny and silly, but it also embraces an eerie atmosphere and a surprisingly elaborate mythology. Some of its mysteries have a genuinely unsettling quality, and the overarching narrative gives the series a stronger sense of stakes than you might expect from a Scooby-Doo cartoon. There are twists, revelations, and unexpected connections that reward viewers who pay attention to the details. At the same time, the series never completely abandons the humor and hijinks that have kept Scooby-Doo popular for generations.

That balance is what makes the show such a successful reinvention. It respects the franchise’s history while being willing to experiment with its storytelling. Longtime fans will recognize the characters and the spirit of the original cartoons, but there is enough new material here to make the experience feel fresh. And for younger viewers discovering Scooby-Doo for the first time, the combination of comedy, mystery, monsters, and character-driven storytelling gives them plenty to enjoy.

Warner Archive’s new six-disc Blu-ray collection is particularly exciting because it brings all 52 episodes together in one complete high-definition package. For a series with this much serialized storytelling, having the entire run available in a single set is ideal. You can move directly from one episode to the next and appreciate how the larger mystery develops across both seasons without having to track down separate releases.

The biggest selling point is undoubtedly the series’ Blu-ray debut. Presenting the show in high definition should make this a welcome addition for animation fans who want to experience the series beyond standard-definition viewing. While the supplied release information doesn’t provide detailed technical specifications or a breakdown of the video and audio presentation, having the complete series available on Blu-ray is an appealing prospect in itself, particularly for collectors who prefer physical media and want to keep their favorite animated shows on the shelf.

The six-disc format also keeps the entire 52-episode run together without turning the collection into an unnecessarily large set. For fans who grew up with Scooby-Doo, collectors who enjoy animated television, or anyone who missed the series during its original run, this is a convenient way to revisit Crystal Cove and follow the mystery from beginning to end.

Ultimately, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated is one of the more ambitious takes on a beloved animated franchise. It takes the familiar characters and classic monster-solving formula and gives them a larger story, deeper relationships, and a darker atmosphere without losing the humor that makes Scooby-Doo so enduring. It’s a show that understands the importance of honoring the past while still having the confidence to try something different.

Warner Archive’s complete-series Blu-ray is an easy recommendation for Scooby-Doo fans and animation collectors. With all 52 episodes from both seasons collected in one high-definition release, this is a great opportunity to revisit one of the franchise’s most distinctive modern incarnations. If you’ve been waiting to add Mystery Incorporated to your physical-media collection, this six-disc set deserves a place on your shelf.
