Review: Jurassic World Rebirth (Blu-ray)

The Jurassic movies have always had a formula, and Rebirth doesn’t stray too far from it. There’s always a containment breach, someone greedy trying to profit off the dinosaurs, a mix of knowledgeable characters and tough ones with tactical skills, and of course, kids in danger who you know will never actually be seriously hurt. The villains usually end up as dino food (which always gets a cheer from the audience), while the main heroes survive and a few secondary characters get sacrificed to raise the stakes. It’s familiar territory, but that’s kind of the point—people come to these movies expecting that blend of chaos, spectacle, and dinosaurs ruling the screen.

Jurassic World: Rebirth tweaks the formula just a little, but enough to make it interesting. The big break in containment actually happened 17 years before the story begins, and instead of one child, we follow Isabella (Audrina Miranda) with her dad, sister, and her sister’s boyfriend. The villains this time aren’t just trying to sell dinosaurs — they’re chasing dinosaur DNA to make a fortune in medicine, since the world has grown a little bored with dinos after three decades. Still, the beats play out as expected: supporting characters meet grisly ends, the bad guys are eaten, the kids are fine, and there’s plenty of dino mayhem to go around.

Visually, the movie looks incredible in 4K and in Blu-ray. Early scenes in the lab and museum are a little muted (aside from some creepy red lighting when things go wrong), but once the action shifts to the island, it’s gorgeous. The greens of the jungle pop, the colors are rich and vibrant, and even the darker scenes — whether in tunnels, temples, or nighttime jungle shots—retain plenty of detail. Skin tones, costumes, and especially the dinosaurs themselves all look great. You can make out every scale, claw, tooth, and wing in sharp detail, which really helps sell the realism.

Performance-wise, Johansson carries the film well and proves she can absolutely handle an action lead outside the Marvel universe. Bailey and Ali are solid too, and it feels like this new cast has the potential to carry the franchise forward. On top of that, the movie introduces a bunch of new dinosaurs, each given its own big action moment, which keeps things fresh.

In the end, Jurassic World: Rebirth doesn’t reinvent the series, but it delivers exactly what fans want: dinosaurs, danger, and a spectacle to watch more than once. With a fantastic 4K & Blu-ray presentation and a booming Dolby Atmos track, it’s a highly entertaining ride and easy to recommend for Jurassic fans. Make sure you don’t skip this one!
