Philips Hue: Hue Go Review

1341799_AB_34_FB.EPS_1000To continue my string of reviews with Philips Hue, up next we have the Hue Go! This is can be added to your Hue Bridge and sync with your Starter Kit or with nothing at all (not recommended.) “The smart portable light that lets you light any moment, anywhere. Set the mood via the control on the product itself or use the Philips Hue app on your smart device.” Now that I have used this quite a bit, this doesn’t beat the LightStrip as the attractive thing Philips has to offer, but it’s super close because it’s super portable and a lot of fun to use.

Unboxing —

Like I mentioned before in the last two reviews, “something I really like that Apple does so well is their packaging, it’s so crisp, clean and simple. Philips Hue fits itself right into that category as well. Everything is so precise and clean cut. Open the box and it’s literally ready to go. I don’t want to use “idiot proof,” but it’s right on the mark. There isn’t loads of directions or crazy loop holes to understand, things to learn… it’s literally ready to go! BAM! BAM! BAM!”

Set Up —

It’s really easy…. This is actually the easiest of them all because theres just a plug and a button, that’s it. After that connect it to power to charge, then sync it to the Hue Bridge so it works with the rest of your lights! In just a few minutes you’ll have it up and running with the rest of your Hue lights.

Price —

The price on the Hue Go is $79.99 to add to your Hue collection. Is that worth it? Follow below and decide for yourself.

Experience —

Below is what is listed with Hue Go, what it does, etc. Everything in color is my experience with it so far, if it applied to me. For this product, there are three main ones I want to talk about, the others listed are as follows with the other lights; you can sync it to music, movies, create your ambience, comfort dimming, smart control, etc, etc.

Portable Light

Light spaces in new, creative ways. Philips Hue go is the most versatile light in your home. When plugged into a power outlet, use it to color your walls with up to 16 million colors or bright white light. Detach it from the mains, and Philips Hue go becomes a portable centerpiece you can carry to set the mood and bring the best light for your activities. It is powered by a rechargeable internal battery that can last up to 3 hours. Also in portable mode, Philips Hue go can be fully controlled with your smart device. The built-in smart battery management guarantees maximum usage. Although Philips Hue go is not waterproof, it is designed to withstand high humidity. Play with light your way, limited only by your imagination.

How it worked for me: In this case I didn’t get to use this that much personally because everyone else was using it with me. My room is already decked out so when we’d all go by the pool at night someone would grab the light for the table outside. When we had dinner outside on the deck the Hue Go was the centerpiece and (along with the help of the app) had an ambient candle flicker. It’s also cool to use while taking photos because you can pick any color you want and have it accentuated in the picture. It’s portable, so you can be creative tons of different ways. Next time I’m at the beach at sunset I’m bringing this to see how cool it can look to light up the area where we sit as it gets dark. (I’ll post the pictures when it happens.)

Control Your Way

Control Philips Hue go conveniently and quickly even without your smart device at hand. Activate light settings directly by pressing the smart control on the product. Choose from 7 different light effects: functional warm white light, cool energizing daylight, and 5 natural dynamic light effects that match your special moments. The fun really starts when you connect Philips Hue go with the bridge and start discovering the endless possibilites. Control Philips Hue go from your smartphone or tablet via the Philips Hue app or any third party app developed for Philips Hue. Set timers, notifications, alarms, and sync to your entertainment system for the full Philips Hue experience. With online access, you can even control your lights from anywhere in the world.

Natural Dynamic Effects

Enhance special moments with living light. Philips Hue go has 5 patented natural dynamic effects: Cozy Candle, Sunday Coffee, Meditation, Enchanted Forest, and Night Adventure. Each dynamic effect has its own mix of colors to set the right mood.

How it worked for me: This is one of the things I was talking about when it came to the bridge and wi-fi… It already has 5 natural dynamic effects built in (actually 7 if you include standard white & daylight.) So if your going to a friends house, a party, get-together, whatever, you can bring it and use it without the need of anything you have at home. There is a button on the bottom to easily filter between options to use it as you would like to. (Hold the button down to turn it off.)

Conclusion — is it worth?

Thumbs up all the way! “Once you begin on the Hue Journey, there’s no going back.” I would consider the Hue Go to be a spot on demo of the entire Hue line from Philips. You don’t need the bridge of Wi-fi for this product to work. You just need to plug it in and it works anywhere or you can charge it and make it portable. It has 7 light effects on it by just pressing the button at the bottom to change it, so you can play with the colors to test out where you could use other products in your home.

I’m not saying to run out and buy this as a test before you grab your Starter Kit, but you could do that and start your Hue Collection with this as a tester. You can adjust it stand up to brighten up any wall in your home, use it outside on the porch, for reading absolutely anywhere, playing games or something as simple as mood lighting while your hanging out in your living room. It’s PORTABLE so it works where you want it to and with any color you’d like it at.

Something to mention again, “This is also something VERY contagious. I have had this for a few weeks and my brother and his girlfriend want to get some for their apartment, my mom wants it, friends want to hop on the train. It’s a Hue Virus!”

Click HERE to visit their website and pick up the Hue Go. Either that or head over to your local Best Buy and pick it up. I can almost guarantee you will be back for more. Stay tuned for my last review on the Hue Bloom coming next week.
